8:26 Histories Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The family wanted to share the passion of being involved in olive growing with even more people as well as to share the secrets of the good life while enjoying the extra virgin olive oil. Because every person on earth writes their own history and as Greek olive oil is intertwined with ancient Greek history and mythology, the idea was born to name the company 8:26 Histories. The name refers to the series of books Histories of Herodotus, which today is considered the fundamental basis of history in Western civilization. Among other things, Herodotus in his 8th book in chapter 26 refers to the crown from an olive branch as the prize of the winner of the Olympic Games. It is the first reference to the olive tree in the historical references of Herodotus. The name highlights the historicity of the olive tree and the fact that the olive tree and its derivatives were known and had an important value in the life of the ancient Greeks. The cultivation of olive trees has been a family tradition for three generations! A pleasant and fulfilling pastime, where passion, knowledge and experience are harmoniously combined. A family’s desire for direct contact with Mother Nature… The cultivation of our own olive groves is performed traditionally with absolute respect to the environment. Using natural rocks, non-mechanized production and the utmost care of the cultivation, we have succeeded in creating a low-acidity first harvested extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality. The traditional varieties “Manaki” and “Throumpa from the island of Evia” have been cultivated in our olive groves for at least six decades. Our olive groves are located in the wider area of Psachna on Evia island, about 15 kilometers from the city of Chalkida. The estates are located on the fertile plain of Psachna, a stone’s throw from the sea and have an unobstructed view lying below the Greek sky.

Acushla Gold Edition

Acushla was born from the passion of a man, the strength of an emotion that would allow several generations from the same family to bond around the olive oil business. The olive tree, by its beauty, spirituality, resistance and longevity, has always fascinated Joaquim Moreira, a fashion and textile entrepreneur, who, having spent most of his professional life in big metropolis, decided to cherish an alternative project strictly connected with nature. The initiative to take this path came from the need to “temper” the everyday life with a business connected to the land and the slower rhythm that it determines. Acushla is a word of Celtic origin that means “beat of my heart”. The name choice arose from the search for a single expression able to translate the whole concept and emotion associated with this project which has materialized in 2006. It was in Quinta do Prado, Vila Flor, located in Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region, that Joaquim Moreira, after much effort in the study on areas with high potential for olive oil production in Portugal, found the ideal site for producing an outstanding olive oil. This estate, with 14 hectares of centenarian olive trees and 200 hectares of new olive trees, has in total approximately 70.000 olive trees. When maturity is reached the expected production of olive oil will be around 350.000 litres, making it one of the largest organic production areas in the region of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. Being the environmental concern and sustainability one of the cornerstones of Acushla, we have elected organic farming, where the growth of the olive trees is conducted with the utmost respect for the established procedures of organic production, foreseen by the European and American legislation. This production includes the use of farming techniques that respect the natural life cycles and reduce environmental impact. It also leads to several slow and expensive procedures, mainly the maintenance of the fertilization of the soils and the respect for phytosanitary and fertilization principles; it is prohibited the use of chemical synthesis products.

Arduna

In Jordan we have a wealth of knowledgeable and talented women who have been the focus of many local and foreign organisations keen on help development and empowerment. Whilst these programmes have been paramount in upgrading skills and raising hopes, what remains lacking is how to get the products sold. Ru’yana, a Jordanian NGO that works with training and funding, saw that without the necessary steps of marketing and sales, skill and hard-work were not reaping tangible rewards. As a solution, Arduna stepped in to select experienced and qualified women producing superior products, and help with quality control, packaging and marketing. So you can rest assured that you are getting the best of what our hands and our lands have to offer. The name Arduna means “our earth” or “our land” in Arabic. We chose this name because our land is what connects these women from different governorates of Jordan and it is these lands that have the perfect nutrients and weather to create some of the best foods and products.
